Custo Barcelona is one of the most anticipated shows at New York Fashion Week. Fashionistas were shoving each other to get a glimpse of his new collection because Custo’s runway had this electrifying energy which carried through to his designs.

The Inspiration:

Under the name ‘Hairy Metal’, Custo Barcelona presented a collection where the indisputable protagonists were metallic sparkles. New York saw a strong, energetic and contemporary collection, in keeping with a new era. Bronze, steel, gold, black and rust comprise a new colour palette which is mixed with graphics inspired by mercury, melted silver, red hot iron and tin.

The cold of metal is contrasted with fake fur, which has been developed in every imaginable form. Hairs of different lengths and colours have been mixed together to create new graphic effects that are sinuous, geometric or crossed. Different types of furs have also been mixed with wools to match the colour graphics and produce volumes that create new depth.

A primitive looking collection that brings cold and warmth face-to-face. Of contrasting looks. Of melting metals. A veritable ode to the periodic table of elements. An invitation to experiment. The star-studded runway show and auction will be held in aid of CARE to raise crucial funds towards rebuilding Haiti’s healthcare system for mother and children.

The runway show will be hosted by Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York and will feature internationally recognized designers, celebrities and VIPs. All the donated garments will be auctioned online at NET-A-PORTER starting February
15th. The donation is tax deductible and 100% of the event ticket sales will benefit CARE.

Fashion For Relief™ will bring together, on the catwalk, top international faces of fashion, music, film, TV, sports and society. The show will feature glamorous clothes by the world’s most renowned and respected fashion designers.

Many braved the snow storm to attend Yuna Yang’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection.  Yuna Yang did not disappoint.  Her collection is delightful !!  It’s so refreshing to see so much color with different textures in one collection.

Yuna’s inspiration this season is the provocative style of 1920′s silent movie starlet Mary Louise Brooks.  Yuna’s interpretation of Ms. Brooks’ style is flirty, feminine yet strong.  Ms. Yang’s vision is to develop a couture quality yet ready-to-wear collection.  And, it was a success !!

I think I may really be able to keep my 2010 New Year’s resolution. Yoga Wii is being released on December 3rd just in time for holiday gift giving. For all couch potatoes, this is a great starter kit since Yoga Wii focuses on breathing which is essential to any good and lasting fitness routine.

Tonight’s launch party was at a Meatpacking District Penthouse filled with media types and trend trackers. Supermodel, Anja Rubik was present when a Nintendo representative was giving a short demo on how to use the system. Some braved and tested the system and did yoga poses in business attire. After which, everyone was given a chance to sign up for table massages. A jazz performance entertained the crowd while they waited for their turn with the masseuse. Perrier Water and Organic Tea were the drinks du jour which is part of the overall healthy theme. To everyone’s surprise, the PR team had yoga mats for us to take home.

DVF’s Spring 2010 Collection is for the free spirited traveler.   Bold prints which were safari-themed in bright colors dominated the runway.  Hobo bags which were equally bold and bright as the model’s outfit made a showing on some models.  Overall, the collection was a hit as it successfully showed sophisticated wearable pieces.
