Lucky Rice 2010′s Opening Night Cocktail Party

Danielle Chang, founder of the Lucky Rice Festival, had placed a batman signal type spot light on Asian cuisine and elevated it to a whole new haute level this side of the Atlantic. The festival’s inaugural event was the Lucky Rice Opening Night Cocktail Party at the swanky Bowery Hotel Terrace hosted by the lovely Kelly Choi. The evening’s offerings were truly impressive as the mixologists outdid themselves in creating the uber Asian Inspired cocktail.

My picks for the night:

Clockwise: (1) The Recipe for the Lucky Rice Cocktail created by Cameron Bogue of Bar Pleiades – Vietnamese coffee infused Reposado Tequilla with Chinese 5 Spice Horchata. (2) Yummy Lucky Rice Cocktail. (3) The most sought after cocktail of the evening – the White Cosmopolitan. (4) Mixologist, Xavier Herit of Daniel showing off the orchid ice orbs which produces a heavenly cloud when vodka is poured over it.

WHITE COSMOPOLITAN
Makes 1 serving

INGREDIENTS:
2 oz. Kissui vodka
1 oz. St. Germain liquor
1/2 oz. lime juice
1 oz. white cranberry juice
Orchid or any other edible flower

PREPARATION:
1. Place an orchid or any other edible flower into an ice tray and fill with water. Freeze.
2. Shake vodka, St. Germain liquor, lime juice and white cranberry juice together with ice and strain into a chilled martini glass.
3. Garnish with frozen flower and enjoy.

Clockwise: (1) Pegu Club’s Plum Lady – Gin, Plum Wine, Plum Brandy and Cherry Liqueur. (2) Third Floor Cafe’s Bokbunja Martini – Kissui Vodka, Bokbunja, Lychee Juice, Cherry Liqueur and Pomegranate. (3) A yummy ginger cocktail from En Japanese Brasserie. (4) Madam Geneva’s Madams Rhubarb Lemongrass Homemade Preserves [Bulldog Gin, Homemade Preserves and Lemon] on the right and East of Eden [Bulldog Gin, Jasmine, Cassia and Cardamom Syrup, Creme de Violette, Coconut Water, Lemon and Pineapple] on the left.

Clockwise: (1) From Macao Trading Company, the charming mixologist served the Drunken Dragon’s Milk [Green Tea Vodka, Coconut Puree, Thai Basil & Bitters]. The basil kicked up the cocktail a few notches. (2) Prime Meats mixed up a drink called Genki Des [Shochu, Dark Rum, Vanilla Syrup, Lime Juice & Basil]. (3) Simple and Sophisticated, B Flat served a Sinatra-era type cocktail called Moments Notice [Kissui Vodka, Sake, Plum Wine & Peach Liqueur garnished with Yamamomo]. (4) The strongest cocktail of the night was served by Fatty Cue called 91st Chamber [Yamazaki 12 Year Whiskey, St-Germain, Campari, Vermouth & Orange Bitters]. This cocktail can numb your taste buds for a good half hour.
